KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 24 (Bernama) -- The Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG) and Seoul Tourism Organization (STO) have appointed aespa members KARINA and WINTER, and RIIZE as honorary ambassadors for Seoul tourism in 2026, launching the global tourism campaign “Absolutely in Seoul” on Sept 23.Built around the message “Where the unexpected becomes the everyday”, the campaign introduces the theme “Absolutely in Seoul” and the concept of “Seoul Syndrome” — a sense of longing travellers' experience after leaving Seoul and wanting to return to the everyday moments, culture and experiences they discovered in the city.
The campaign highlights Seoul’s tourism attractions, including K-pop and K-content, the Hangang River, alleyways, cafes, food, shopping and night views, which are presented as experiences that can leave a lasting impression on visitors.
“This campaign is about connecting the global influence of K-culture with Seoul’s diverse tourism experiences, so that people around the world will want to experience the city for themselves.
“We will showcase Seoul’s many attractions, by day and by night, and strengthen its position as a global destination that keeps travellers coming back,” said STO President and Chief Executive Officer, Kim Byung-min in a statement.
In the campaign films, KARINA, WINTER and RIIZE appear as modern-day Sinseon, mystical beings from Korean tradition. The films begin with news reports about “Seoul Syndrome” emerging around the world before moving into a fantasy setting in which figures from a centuries-old painting of Sinseon enter present-day Seoul.
The campaign films will be released sequentially on the Visit Seoul YouTube channel and social media, following the Sept 23 teaser. Online activities will also include a comment event and “Guess the Seoul Night Spot”, a voice quiz featuring the artists.
Offline activities will be held at seven participating locations across Seoul, including five Seoul Tourist Information Centres and two Seoul My Soul Shops. Visitors who complete designated missions will receive campaign merchandise, including artist posters and photocards. More details will be released on Visit Seoul’s social media channels in mid-October.
From October, the campaign will expand internationally through outdoor advertising in major overseas cities, including Times Square in New York, and television spots on CNN in more than 133 countries.
